SEVIERVILLE VISITOR CENTER UNVEILS NEW HISTORICAL EXHIBIT

Furious Clash of Cavalry: The Battle of Fair Garden

The Sevierville Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center, located at 3099 Winfield Dunn Parkway, Kodak, Tennessee, officially opened with a brief ribbon cutting ceremony Furious Clash of Cavalry: The Battle of Fair Garden, a historical exhibit detailing Sevierville and Sevier County’s most significant Civil War engagement, on Monday, January 28, 2019.

The battle, which took place on January 27, 1864, resulted in the loss of two hundred and sixty-five lives and was a strategic win for the Union forces in Tennessee.

“We began producing historical exhibits for the Sevierville Visitor Center in 2017,” says Sevierville Chamber of Commerce CEO Brenda McCroskey. “Not only has the program helped increase visitation to the center, it has also enhanced overall guest experience while they are here. We are proud to share Sevierville’s history with our guests and are proud to showcase Furious Clash of Cavalry: The Battle of Fair Garden here in 2019.”

Those touring the free exhibit can expect to spend 15-20 minutes learning about the battle, including the significant historical figures who played part and Sevier County’s interesting history as a Union hold out surrounded by Confederate sympathizers.

The Tennessee Civil War Trail interpretive marker denoting the Battle of Fair Garden is located at 1720 Old Newport Highway near the campus of Walters State Community College Sevier County Campus. In total, the battlefield encompassed nearly an eight-mile area stretching from the French Broad River to the Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon River.

Furious Clash of Cavalry: The Battle of Fair Garden is open daily from 9am until 5pm at the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center located at 3099 Winfield Dunn Parkway, Kodak, Tennessee. For more information call 1-888-738-4378.
